Big Buddha 1/11/20

Our day started off by David dropping his octopus card down the sewer drain, David having his water bottle stolen and we missed the bus to Big Buddha. After this series of unfortunate events we were told where to wait for the bus to the top and managed to get on the bus. It was full so we stood the entire half hour ride up. Upon our arrival we were greeted by cattle that were free to just wander around. At the top of a steep staircase was the 35ft tall statue of the Buddha, which was a sight to behold. Behind the statue was a beautiful view into a valley. Next to the statue was a monastery that was filled with smaller statues. Everywhere people were burning incense sticks that varied in size. We made our way around the pagodas until we found the room of 10,000 Buddhas. When we got hungry we found a vegetarian place that served all sorts of buns as well as wheat based chicken replacement. While I was waiting to pay there was a local woman who started arguing with the store workers who quickly lost their patience with her and sent her away. I tried the wheat based curry and it was surprisingly really good. We also tried some mango jelly that was very refreshing. After lunch we made our way back to the bus stops which were located in a shopping alley. The stores were very new and had all sorts of things from chopsticks to lucky cats. The bus ride down was quiet and we all got a quick nap in on the way down. We slowly made our way back to the hotel where we took a nap until dinner time.
